Network standards
What every site in the network promises
These rules apply to this hub and to every site that joins the network. Each site's own methodology page says how it applies them to its subject.
Facts only
What named public sources say. No advocacy, no greenwashing, no company mentions in the content.
Every number sourced
Source name, link, source date and pulled date beside every figure. No source, no number.
Neutral language
Describe what a source documents. Where sources disagree, show both, with dates.
No rankings across sites
Tiles in a fixed order. No site, state, sea or subject is placed above another.
Privacy
No cookies, no fingerprinting. Only pinned scripts from one CDN and fonts from one host.
Data on request, one chrome
Every figure traceable; the data behind the pages in JSON on request; the shared bar and footer on every site.
1. Facts only
- A site publishes what named public sources say: agency records, court filings, scientific monitoring, official statistics, and news reporting that cites them.
- No advocacy, no calls to action, no "should". No greenwashing: a claim of improvement needs the same sourcing as a claim of harm.
- No company mentions in the content. The hub and each site carry one credit line, "Sponsored by", in the footer and nowhere else. The sponsor has no say in what is researched, scored or shown, and never appears in a finding, a figure or a source.
2. Every number has a source and a date
- Every figure shown on the hub carries the source's name, a link to it, the date of the source, and the date the figure was pulled.
- The hub's renderer refuses a figure without all four. The Sources page lists every figure currently shown and where it came from.
- A figure the hub derives itself (for example a count from a site's public data feed) is labeled "derived by the hub" and names the feed as its source.
3. Neutral language, disagreement shown
- Describe what a source documents; do not characterize it. Severity on a site is a documented score with a published rubric, not a judgment.
- Where sources disagree, show both, with their dates. The newer source does not silently replace the older one.
- Absence of a record is not evidence of absence of a problem. Every site says what it did not search.
4. No rankings across sites or subjects
- Tiles on the hub are in a fixed order (by the site's launch date). The hub never orders sites, states, seas or subjects by severity.
- Within a site, ranking is per category only, under that site's published rubric.
5. Privacy
- No cookies, no fingerprinting, no personal data collected. Visit counts use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which stores no identifiers and needs no consent banner.
- External resources on the hub: fonts from Google Fonts and two scripts (d3, topojson) from cdnjs, pinned to exact versions. Nothing else loads from a third party.
6. Data on request
- Every figure on the hub can be traced to a named source, and the data behind the pages is available in JSON on request (request form). It is not published as an open download.
- Corrections are published as new revisions, never as silent edits. A withdrawn record is tombstoned with a reason.
7. One network, one chrome
- Every site carries the shared network bar above its own header and the network strip in its footer, at the version this hub publishes (currently
1.0.0, at network/chrome/latest/). - A site keeps its own name, colors, navigation and theme toggle. The shared parts are deliberately quieter than any site's own header.
